The world still thinks Americans are "coolest": poll

They may be witnessing their global superpower influence decline in the face of challenges from other emerging players on the world stage, but Americans have been voted the world's "coolest nationality" in an international poll.

Social networking site Badoo.com (www.badoo.com) asked 30,000 people across 15 countries to name the coolest nationality and also found that the Spanish were considered the coolest Europeans, Brazilians the coolest Latin Americans and Belgians the globe's least cool nationality.

"We hear a lot in the media about anti-Americanism," says Lloyd Price, Badoo's Director of Marketing. "But we sometimes forget how many people across the world consider Americans seriously cool."

Of course, not all Americans are cool far from it. Some like Snoop Dogg, Lady Gaga, Samuel L. Jackson, Johnny Depp and Quentin Tarantino are way cooler than others.

Americans, however, are the dudes who invented cool and who still embody it in many fields from music to movies and TV to technology.

"America," says Price, "boasts the world's coolest leader, Obama; the coolest rappers, Jay-Z and Snoop Dogg; and the coolest man in technology, Steve Jobs of Apple, the man who even made geeks cool."

Brazilians are ranked the second coolest nationality in the Badoo poll and the coolest Latin Americans, ahead of Mexicans and Argentinians. The Spanish, in third place, are the coolest Europeans.

The French are voted cooler than the British, and Canadians cooler than the Belgians. This may come as a relief for Canadians, who are sometimes viewed as chronically uncool.

Or, as Michael Ignatieff, the Canadian politician, once put it: "Paris, Texas stands as a metaphor for broken dreams; Paris, Saskatchewan just sounds ridiculous."

THE 10 COOLEST NATIONALITIES FIVE LEAST COOLEST

1. Americans 1. Belgians

2. Brazilians 2. Poles

3. Spanish 3. Turks

4. Italians 4. Canadians

5. French 5. Germans

6. British

7. Dutch

8. Mexicans

9. Argentinians

Vanessa Hudgens returns to fashion form with chilled out new look

Vanessa Hudgens has been quite the chameleon lately.

Switching from grungy gym bunny to sultry seductress at the VMAs and back again, there are clearly many sides to the Sucker Punch star.

And her latest look, channeling baggy chic in Studio City seems to indicate that the actress is feeling like some chill-out time.

Wearing a long dark skirt and a fringed orange vest, Vanessa was obviously in the mood for something less constricting than the leggings which have been her item of choice recently.

She didn't even appear to be wearing a bra, but she managed to get away with the always-risky decision, even sporting a cool leather beaded necklace.

Vanessa wasn't wearing much makeup on under her huge sunnies, but the natural look suited the fresh faced star.  She also accessoised with some chunky gold rings, and purple nail varnish to add a further splash of colour.

The 22 year old had popped into Mareka Organic Food with some friends to pick up a few nutritious bites.

The healthy choice was most likely part of her new slimming regime, which she has embarked on to lose the extra pounds she gained for her role in upcoming independent movie, Gimme Shelter.

Vanessa has been combining a healthy diet with regular exercise to regain her usually svelte frame.

She has been spotted carting her yoga mat to class, and also went for a hike with her teenage sister Stella yesterday.

The actress appears to have regained some of her confidence after struggling with the short hair cut she had for Gimme Shelter.

Though admitting she initially felt like a 'soccer mom', Vanessa has picked up some style points, and has managed to pull off the difficult look more effectively in recent weeks.

She turned up looking noticeably more polished to the VMAs last week, and obviously had a great time out afterwards, writing on her Facebook page: 'Had a ridiculously fun time at the Candie’s party. Yummy desserts, best friends, and the cast of Jersey Shore'

Vanessa's latest film Gimme Shelter is due out early next year.

The Kardashian sisters sizzle in lingerie for clothing line campaign... shot by famed photographer Annie Leibovitz

The Kardashian sisters sizzle in lingerie for clothing line campaign... shot by famed photographer Annie Leibovitz

Many critics continue to dismiss the Kardashians as simply famous for being famous.  But one respected figure has jumped on the bandwagon - world renowned photographer Annie Leibovitz has shot the sisters for an ad campaign to promote their clothing line for Sears.

Kim, Kourtney and Khloe posed for the famed artist scantily clad in lingerie in newly released shots.

Gazing seductively at the cameras, Kim, 30, shows off her famous assets in a black and white lace set.

Kourtney, 32, dons a skimpy colourful design while youngest Khloe, 27, wears a pretty pink lace basque and suspender stockings.

The top secret photoshoot was completed back in May, and Kim gushed about working with Leibovitz on her blog at the time.

She wrote: 'What an amazing day! We shot with the living legend herself, Annie Leibovitz! I swear this was such an eye opening day. She shot our Kardashian Kollection for Sears ad campaign!

'I can’t give away any details, but we have never been shot like this before and it was soooo fun shooting with Kourtney and Khloe… Mason even made a cameo!'

The trio clearly made a lasting impression on the photographer, who is now throwing them a bash at her studio in New York next week to celebrate the Kardashian Kollection clothing line.

The girls lounge on a sofa clad all in black in a second promotional picture, and strut towards the camera in different leopard-print pieces in another.

The Kardashian Kollection was launched in Los Angeles a fortnight ago and hit stores on August 25.

In addition to their collection for Sears and various fragrances and other products, the family continue to expand their retail empire.

They announced this week that another boutique, named Kardashian Khaos will be opening later this year in Las Vegas. The family already have three branches of their DASH franchise in Calabasas, New York and Miami.

How To Wear A Lace Wig

With wigs becoming much more of a decision for many women, the market has responded with a vast collection of styles and brands. major factors are what the wigs are made of, is a real hair, most of the other is synthetic, a lot of people would choose the real hair wig, but you must consider your budget and time needed to treat your new wig.

Wig hair of a person as it seems is made from real hair, a lot of hair used for making wigs comes from these types of Asian-born women. The hair has its own characteristics was very heavy, black and straight hair and even higher quality can be obtained from these areas of China. Both types of hair are obviously black and died immediately. This is good to do first black wigs, though not so great for each head curly red wig. To capture this hair is treated with a series of dyes and bleaches, which affects the quality of the wig hair of a person at the end.
The first levels in the market for human hair wig wigs were made of hair that could come from Eastern European countries like Poland or Russia. The price of these wigs is much higher, but the caliber of the hair is taller and looks better and works for you much longer.

If your choice is to get a human hair wig, be sure that you are spending a lot of money doing your research and investigate the origin on hair that is used to manufacture wigs, since they do not want to be spending $ 500 on a wig and discover that European human hair was made of Asian hair.

Consider the features of top of owning and caring for human hair wig. The first thing you think is the time the wig can last over a synthetic one, is much longer, even up to 10 times longer if your wig is maintained properly. Another reason is the look that is as human as possible, since it is the natural hair wigs are often in style with heated styling tools, as was a brief one bevel. The latter is a human hair, so handle with care.

So now we have emphasized the benefits of a human hair hairpiece, so are the disadvantages of having one, let me think, so I could only consider a couple really. You have the right to re-style your wig after each washing is assigned, since it does not offer human hair style, like a synthetic wig, the price of these kinds of wigs is much more than other choices, but my opinion is go higher if you want your results.

Cheryl Cole gets to work on set of What To Expect When You're Expecting

It was revealed earlier this month that Cheryl Cole could be starring in her first Hollywood movie, What To Expect When You're Expecting.

And now the former X Factor judge has started work on the film in Atlanta, Georgia, alongside Cameron Diaz. The 28-year-old star was spotted on the set, showing off her figure in a tight black Emilio Pucci lace dress and sky-high heels as she made her way to film her first scenes.

The film – whose cast also includes actors Dennis Quaid, Chris Rock and Matthew Morrison - chronicles the lives of four couples as they prepare to become parents.

And, in what could be construed as a side-swipe at Simon Cowell after she was sacked from X Factor USA, Cheryl will play a TV talent show judge for her cameo role in the film.

Cameron plays Jules who auditions in an X Factor-style contest in front of the TV talent show judge - Cheryl's character.

Cheryl is said to have initially impressed Hollywood film bosses during a four-day appearance at the Cannes Film Festival in May.

A film source revealed to the Daily Mail earlier this year: ‘This is a bit of fun for Cheryl. She will film the scenes imminently and is really looking forward to it.

'It doesn’t mean she suddenly wants to become actress. It was just an opportunity that has come up while she has been having some down time and she thought it would be great fun to take part.’

A spokesperson for the singer confirmed at the time: 'Cheryl Cole is confirmed for a small cameo appearance in the film What to Expect When You're Expecting.'

Meanwhile, in a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Simon Cowell said he wouldn't hesitate to offer Cheryl a role on another of his TV projects.

Defending his decision to replace Cheryl with Nicole Scherzinger in the US, Cowell said: 'You're not drowning puppies here.

'You're offering someone who's got millions of dollars more money and more work. And if people think that's cruel, then they can do that to me on a daily basis. I'll take it twice a day.'

Cowell also confirmed that he offered Cheryl the chance to return to UK X Factor, but negotiations fell apart and they hadn't spoken since.

He said: 'She missed the deadline which meant she'd lost the UK show. I asked her manager Will.i.am, "How does she feel about it?" He said, "It's none of your concern."

'I never heard from her... I think her silence was quite damning.'

Sonam Kapoor is face of jewellery week

Sonam Kapoor is the face of the India International Jewellery Week (IIJW) after designer Farah Khan Ali, who created waves at the inaugural edition last year decided to give it a miss this time due to other commitments.

The five-day event, organised by the Gems & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) begins in Mumbai on July 31.

"I am not showcasing at the second edition of the jewellery week as I am working on a bigger project which requires time and concentration," Farah, was in the news recently after international singer Beyonce Knowles wore a crown designed by her for a new music album "4", told IANS.

The jewellery at Mumbai's Grand Hyatt hotel will see collections from designers like Varuna D. Jani and brands like Amrapali, Tanishq and Ganjam.

Top Bollywood celebrities, models and some international icons, whose names are being kept under wraps, have been roped in to walk the ramp during the event.

Making a style statement with Gandhi Topi

Who would have envisioned a 74-year-old man making a fashion statement with his white kurta pyjama and Gandhi Topi in the 21st century? But Anna Hazare has allured youth who are not only supporting his anti-corruption movement but imitating his style as well.

According to designers, the Gandhi Topi - a slim boat-shaped cap often worn with a slight tilt that was the sartorial symbol of India's freedom movement - was always in demand but the reformer has pushed its popularity to another level and made it look very "cool".
"The Gandhian Topi has been in trend since the 1900s. The cap was usually worn by people on Republic Day and Independence Day. What we can say is Anna has brought the fashion trend back," designer Anjalee Kapoor told IANS.

"But his style of wearing the topi has become a very important aspect of the movement. He has made it look very cool," she added.
The market is flooded with these caps which have "I AM ANNA" written over them and street vendors from all over India - Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Kolkata and Ahmedabad - are selling it.
"We had made around 1,500 topis only for Independence Day and I was doubtful whether I would be able to sell the whole stock. But it was a surprise to find youngsters buying these caps. By Aug 16, when Annaji went on fast, the caps ran out of stock in no time," said Amrit Kumar, a vendor who sells at Ramlila Maidan, the site of Anna' protest fast.
