Handy tips for staying beautiful in cold weather
Here are a few tips that can help keep your skin feeling and looking good in cold weather countries by Lape Soetan True Love May 2008
a) It may be tempting to use the harshest cleansers you can find if you suddenly break out in pimples, but such cleansers can actually make the problem worse. Generally, if your skin feels tight or starts peeling, you’re using the wrong beauty products and should switch to something gentle.
b) The cold winds can really dry skin, so use gentle moisturizers on your face. Even if you have oily skin you can try oil-free moisturizers which should moisturize without making the face look like an oil slick.
c) Use a lip balm as often as possible, and switch to creamy lipstick or use your favorite lip balm under lipstick to protect the lips and keep then soft. Don’t lick or bite your lips unless you don’t mind going around with painful red lips.
d) If you were using a light lotion for your body, switch to a rich cream or body butter, as these are more likely to keep dry skin at bay in cold weather.
e) When it comes to hair removal, consider switching to depilatory creams, as shaving in cold weather can leave the skin looking flaky and feeling itchy.
f) Scaly looking skin is common in cold weather, but exfoliation lifts dead skin cells and reveals smoother looking skin-so use a scratchy sponge when you bath, or try body bushes and body scrubs.
g) Carry tubes of hand cream around with you so you can tackle dry skin as soon as you notice any pesky patches of dry skin.

Everyday Facial Scrub Recipe for Black Women
A facial scrub is one of the essential beauty products for the skin, along with tonic and cream. These three skin care products are essential for healthy, attractive skin. While the tonic cleans and the cream nourishes, the scrub removes old, dead skin cells by polishing the skin's surface and leaving behind a new, smooth skin layer. Just like with every beauty product, it is best when a scrub is completely compatible, and that is why African American women need to use a slightly different kind of facial scrub than the ones meant primarily for Caucasian skin.
Things You'll Need
- Antibacterial soap
- Ceramic bowl
- Tablespoon
- Lime
- Lemon
- Honey
- Plain yogurt
- Oatmeal
- Corn flour
- Baking soda
Instructions
-
- 1Wash your hands with warm water and antibacterial soap. Do the same with the bowl and the spoon you will use when making the facial scrub. When making a homemade cosmetic product, everything must be aseptic and clean.
- 2 Squeeze two small lemons or limes into a ceramic bowl. African American skin tends to be oily, so this ingredient is essential for removing excess oil.
- 3 Add 3 tbsp. of honey and 3 tbsp. of plain, unsweetened yogurt. African American skin normally has large pores and using ingredients, such as honey and yogurt, helps to nourish and moisturize even during a quick facial scrub.
- 4 Add 2 tbsp. of fine, plain oatmeal. Use a high-quality oatmeal, one with soft grains that won't be too tough on the skin. Note that if oatmeal is left open, it becomes more crispy and hard in a few days; therefore, it is better to use soft oatmeal from an unopened package. You can substitute oatmeal with corn flour: both of these ingredients make excellent abrasive agents in a facial scrub recipe.
- 5 Mix the ingredients thoroughly with the tablespoon, until they form a homogeneous paste. If you want a less complicated facial scrub, follow the next step.
- 6 Combine 1 tbsp. of baking soda and 2 tbsp. of oatmeal with just enough water to soak the oatmeal and create a thick mixture.
- 1Wash your hands with warm water and antibacterial soap. Do the same with the bowl and the spoon you will use when making the facial scrub. When making a homemade cosmetic product, everything must be aseptic and clean.
